The Northeast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub Receives Encouragement for Full Proposal from DOE
The New Jersey Fuel Cell Coalition will be phased out over 2023 as other organizations ramp up hydrogen and fuel cell activities in the state, particularly the NJ Clean Cities Coalition and the NJ Fuel Cell Task Force. The NJFCC website will remain active through 2023 to share related news. It has been an honor to work toward clean energy goals with the hydrogen/fuel cell community and other clean energy advocates.

The Northeast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub Receives Encouragement for Full Proposal from DOE

The Northeast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub’s concept paper – submitted by NYSERDA for the Northeast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub on behalf of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and 60+ partners – has been encouraged by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to proceed to full proposal development and submission.

In December 2022, DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) responded to concept papers submitted for the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) program and received 79 submissions. In these concept papers, applicants requested nearly $60 billion in federal funding—roughly eight to nine times the size of DOE’s $6-7 billion solicitation. Proposed projects by the applicants included in aggregate, more than $150 billion of their own capital alongside the DOE’s federal investment. OCED notified those who submitted concept papers that they were either encouraged or discouraged from submitting a full application. The final application deadline is April 7, 2023, and DOE anticipates selecting awardees during the summer of 2023.
